AUSTRALIA – Viridios Capital is building its international carbon market policy team with the appointment of two key roles in Australia and the UK.
The news comes as changes to Australia’s Safeguard Mechanism are set to come into force and the European Union (EU) Parliament has approved legislation designed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
“With policy frameworks for carbon markets around the world continuing to evolve as the world pushes towards its 2030 climate targets,” says Viridios Group CEO Eddie Listorti.
“We’re building our policy team to help our clients navigate the changing, and often complex, carbon market requirements.”
Head of Policy and Market Development (United Kingdom)
Steven Gray joins Viridios Capital as head of policy and market development, London, and has 20 years of experience in climate-related law and policy, including in sectors such as energy transition and financial services.
Steven has been actively involved in carbon markets since 2005. Most recently as former Legal Director at DLA Piper, Steven worked with lawyers across a number of practice areas and sectors advising on climate-related regulation, carbon markets (compliance and voluntary), climate risk integration and climate-related financial disclosures. He’s also worked with clients to develop strategies and manage sustainability-related risk, sustainability-related reporting, and disclosures, ESG due diligence, governance, policies, and processes.
Head of Legal and Policy (Australia)
Sharona Coutts joins Viridios Capital as head of legal and policy, Australia, from leading international law firm Baker Mckenzie, where she advised on legal aspects of climate finance and risk as well as domestic and international climate law.
Sharona was previously an investigative reporter, editor and executive at various publications in the United States and Australia.
“We’re thrilled that Steven and Sharona have joined our global team of carbon market experts and we believe Viridios is well-positioned to work with carbon market participants to deliver the solutions they need amid the rapidly changing regulatory landscape,” Listorti says.
